× An Evening of Musical Bridges: A Bicentennial Celebration Kickoff for Bolivia's Independence and a Centennial Tribute to Jaime Mendoza Nava
Tuesday, February 25 at 8pm
Meng Concert Hall

Tickets go on sale Tuesday, February 4 at noon.

Join us for an intimate and enchanting evening as we launch the bicentennial celebrations of Bolivian independence in California. Meng Hall will resonate with the beauty of chamber music performed by world-class artists from Australia, Bolivia, and the U.S. This unique event, graced by the presence of the Bolivian Consul, Gabriela Silva, and followed by a reception, will also serve as a centennial tribute to the esteemed Bolivian composer Jaime Mendoza Nava (1925-2005), whose remarkable career left an indelible mark on American film and television.
What to Expect: International Chamber Music: Prepare to be captivated by a unique musical dialogue between cultures. Renowned musicians from Australia, Bolivia, and the U.S. Danilo Rojas (jazz and folk piano), Christian Asturizaga (concertmaster of the National Symphony Orchestra of Bolivia), Masaru Sauka (Bolivian pianist residing in Arizona), Mateo Hurtado de Mendoza (Bolivian drummer living in Las Vegas), Natalie Mendoza (LA vocalist), and our own CSUF School of Music professors Dr. Joni prado and Dr. Vivianne Asturizaga will collaborate in a program showcasing the power and versatility of chamber music. The performance will feature the exquisite interplay of piano, violin, drums, voice, and flute, creating a tapestry of sound that transcends borders.
A Celebration of a Musical Legacy: This evening will celebrate the extraordinary contributions of Jaime Mendoza Nava, a Bolivian composer who brought his native roots to his compositions for film and television in the United States. A graduate of Juilliard, the Madrid Conservatory, and the Sorbonne in Paris, where he studied under the renowned Nadia Boulanger, Mendoza Nava’s talent graced iconic programs such as Zorro and the Mickey Mouse Club at Walt Disney Studios, as well as CBS's coverage of the Apollo 11 mission. His influence on American musical culture is profound, and this concert aims to honor his legacy.
A Celebration of Two Milestones: This event is more than just a concert; it celebrates cultural exchange and artistic collaboration, honoring two significant milestones: Bolivia's bicentennial and the centennial of Jaime Mendoza Nava. It's an opportunity to witness how music connects people and bridges continents, honoring Bolivia's rich heritage through the universal language of art.
A Celebration of Unity: Join us, along with the Bolivian Consul, Gabriela Silva, in celebrating the enduring spirit of Bolivia, the enduring legacy of Jaime Mendoza Nava, and the power of music to unite us all. Don't miss this extraordinary evening of musical artistry and international collaboration, a perfect way to begin the bicentennial celebrations and pay tribute to a remarkable composer whose work is woven into the fabric of American popular culture!
