The Celebración de Cal State Fullerton: ¡Somos Titans! (We are Titans) event was created to both celebrate and generate vital funding to continue our life-changing Latinx Student Scholarships and Support Programs.

For more than three decades, conguero (conga player), Poncho Sanchez has stirred up a fiery stew of straight-ahead jazz, gritty soul music, and infectious melodies and rhythms from a variety of Latin American and South American sources.

Born in Laredo, Texas, in 1951 to a large Mexican-American family, Sanchez grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles, where he was raised on an unusual cross-section of sounds that included straight-ahead jazz, Latin jazz and American soul. Along the way, he taught himself to play guitar, flute, drums, and timbales, but eventually settled on the congas.

After more than two decades in music, Sanchez’s efforts paid off when his album Latin Soul received a Grammy award as Best Latin Album of 1999. Cal State Fullerton is honored to welcome Poncho Sanchez to the Meng Concert Hall stage.

Tickets for the concert portion of ¡Somos Titans! are available through the box office. For questions regarding sponsorship opportunities, or the Pre-Event Fiesta, contact Meghan Paradiso-Alva at mparadiso@fullerton.edu or 657-278-2566

FACE COVERING UPDATE
Based upon recent changes to the COVID-19 guidance issued by the CDC and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the University has updated its requirements for wearing a face covering in indoor public settings.

Based on this new guidance as well as current COVID-19 community levels within the region, as of April 1, 2022, the University will no longer require wearing face coverings indoors.

The University values the personal choice of wearing a face covering and suggests that members of our community carefully consider the recommendations of the CDC and CDPH. Those who wish to continue to wear face coverings regardless of vaccination status are free to do so without fear of retaliation..

Thank you for your continued support. Now, on with the show!
